Because tennis is can be quite an expensive sport to play, many people are interested in finding a cheap tennis racquet.  After all, if you have to pay court fees and club memberships, there isn’t much more room for you to cut costs.  High quality graphite or titanium tennis racquets can cost over $300.  So, if this caliber of racquet is so expensive, can you find a cheap tennis racquet that will do the trick?

The answer depends on what you are looking for.  You can find reasonable, good quality tennis racquets for under $100.  We’ve got a selection of new and used cheap tennis racquets available for you.

If you are just starting out, I would recommend either borrowing racquets from your friends.  Ideally, you will have friends whose level and style of play vary enough to allow you to try a variety of different racquets before deciding on what style or materials are right for you.  If you don’t have anyone you can borrow a racquet from, you may want to consider a cheap tennis racquet.  You can find low end racquets in the $20 price range. However, you need to keep in mind that these racquets may not adequately represent the quality of play you can expect to get from a better racquet.

Some people wonder why you’d buy a tennis racquet that costs more than the basic variety you can find at Sears or K-Mart.  The reason is simple.  There is a lot of science behind the making of a tennis racquet.  There have been studies of the kinesiology of the most advanced players.  From this, manufacturers have designed racquets that are tuned for specific types of play.  For example, there are tennis racquets that are designed to be more flexible and some that are designed to be less flexible.  This will impact the power and accuracy of your shot.  Some racquets are designed for the baseline player, while others are made for the all-around player.  You can even find a racquet which will help to minimize the likelihood of developing tendonitis, or tennis elbow.

As with anything you might buy, you need to look at quality versus price.  You can find good quality cheap tennis racquets, but you shouldn’t expect to find a high quality racquet in the bargin bin at Sears.

Finding the right racquet that complements your style of play can take a bit of time.  If you have friends who play tennis, borrow a few different racquets from friends who have varying styles of play.  This will help you to determine which style works best for you.  Then you can go on the hunt for a cheap tennis racquet that meets your criteria.
